CALANGUTE: Calangute Panchayat on Thursday held a meeting with the major hoteliers of the village with regards to installation of solar power panels in their properties with an aim to reduce the overall electricity load.
The meeting in the panchayat hall was attended by a few hoteliers. The panchayat had passed a resolution at the gram sabha to initiate and promote the use of solar energy in all the major hotels in Calangute. Through this move the panchayat aims to help reduce the overall electricity load and promote clean energy in the village.
Calangute sarpanch Shawn Martins said the village has been suffering from numerous power cuts for the several weeks and they now see solar energy as an alternate source.
“We have been following up with the Electricity Department and our local MLA, Michael Lobo regularly to solve the issue of power cuts on priority. At the same time we have initiated steps to promote the use of clean energy like solar energy which will help us reduce the load on our village. If these hoteliers can install it and avail government subsidy then we will have a partial solution to the power woes in Calangute,” Shawn added.
