CALANGUTE: A day after the Calangute Panchayat said that it sealed two dance bars at Khobrawaddo on the Baga lane, sarpanch Joseph Sequeira on Wednesday, in a U-turn of sorts, said  that they have only stopped the restaurant part of the business.

On Tuesday, on dance bars he said, “We don’t want this nonsense here. We don’t want these kinds of businesses here in Calangute.”

One does not know what transpired to lead to this mood change. But this was the Sarpanch a day later. “We have told them to stop the restaurant because the restaurant licence is given by the panchayat,” he said.

But the bar licence comes under the Excise Department, so it is up to them to take action,” Sequeira said.

“But we have told the places not to carry out any illegal activities. The places are open but there are no illegal activities,” he said.

The Calangute panchayat on Monday night had said that they had sealed two alleged dance bars located at Khobrawaddo because of the unsavoury activities going on there. “We don’t want these kinds of businesses here in Calangute and we will see that these kinds of businesses don’t come up in Calangute in future. It’s a big problem for us. That’s why we all came for an inspection and sealed the premises,” Sequeira had said.

Clearly the “problem” seemed to be over in 24 hours.
