MAPUSA: Calangute MLA and Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo stated that if people of Calangute do not want urban status then he also would want it to continue as village.
“Buildings came up in Calangute even before I became the MLA. One should check when Calangute was declared as urban area. It’s on the census. It is only that the State government has notified it now. Locals will benefit from the urban status and will thank the government for it later”, Lobo said.
“Urban status will not remove the panchayat and turn it into a municipality. The taxes will not increase but locals will benefit”, Lobo added.
“If people of Calangute don’t want the urban status then I am also not interested. I am concerned of Calangute because today people are filing complaints against each other, including family members,” Lobo added.
