Calconda local waylaid,attacked at Margao

A 61-year-old resident of Calconda Cantu Velip was waylaid and attacked late Sunday evening while he was crossing the railway tracks near the old railway station, Margao.
A gold chain, wallet, mobile and cash, all amounting to Rs 50,000 was stolen by the four miscreants.
When the victim was about to cross the tracks from the old station side, four miscreants, who were hiding in the bushes, suddenly surfaced and attacked Velip on his face and other parts of the body, before lifting his gold chain and other items.
The miscreants spoke in Konkani and escaped under the cover of darkness.
Residents, who gathered at the spot, after the incident said this is the not first time that miscreants has attacked residents crossing the tracks to get to Calconda. They demanded early completion of the footbridge and illumination of the entire area to keep the miscreants at bay.
As the news of the attack on the 61-year-old resident spread, personnel of the Konkan Railway police station also rushed to the spot. The victim narrated the story to the men in uniform, even as the local residents demanded action against the miscreants before more persons become victims at the hands of the robbers.
