Calvim resident held for burning crops, released

Barely a day after seeking the disqualification of Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo, the petitioner Melwyn Fernandes of Calvim-Aldona was arrested by Mapusa Police on Saturday on charges of burning crops in Calvim.

PORVORIM: Barely a day after seeking the disqualification of Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo, the petitioner Melwyn Fernandes of Calvim-Aldona was arrested by Mapusa Police on Saturday on charges of burning crops in Calvim. He was later released on bail.

According to Mapusa Police, Luiza Cruz of Calvim had filed a complaint against Melwyn Fernandes and another resident, stating that they had burnt her vegetation/crops, causing loss to the tune of Rs 30,000, on December 9, 2012.

Acting on the complaint, police conducted investigations and arrested Fernandes under Section 435 of IPC. 

He was later released on bail.
