MARGAO: The villagers of Camorlim, Ambora and Raia residing in and around the vicinity of the State highway from Margao to Borim have complained that the widening work is too slow and is playing havoc with the peoples’ lives.
The people informed that the road is under widening process for the past several years and the work is progressing very slowly, which they said, is playing havoc in their daily living.
“At the moment the road work is in such a state that tonnes of dust are raised by passing vehicles. We breathe, drink and eat dust all the time. The volume of traffic on this road is so much and all the 24 hours of the day that it is impossible to even open a window or a door for fresh air,” Ashwinkumar Naik, a local panch, said.
“Our houses are full of dust all the time in which the infants and adults including senior citizens have to live. Besides this, there is continuous and unbearable noise of heavy traffic including trailer trucks due to pot holes and bumps of the road for all the 24 hours (even at nights) disturbing our sleep,” said Celso Dias.
The people said that it looks like there would be no tarring of the road till the broadening is completed, which would need lot more time. “As human beings, we are deprived of clean fresh air and peaceful living without noise — at least to sleep at night. The most affected areas are Tembim, Ambora, Sonfator, etc. A site visit will show that we are the worst affected more than the mining areas,” said a housewife in this area.
“Our pleas to the Government of Goa fell on deaf ears. With no hope, we are approaching you to help us in this matter and obtain the minimum relief required to live as humans with our children and others,” a local said.
The locals have threatened to block the road if the problem is not solved.
