Camorlim p’yat seeks Guv’s help to boost finances, agri & infra in 8-point missive

The memorandum also appealed for proper disbursal of grants to develop the infrastructure of the panchayat and to help promote agriculture

MARGAO: The village panchayat of Camorlim has submitted an eight-point memorandum to Goa Governor P S Pillai, seeking his intervention to ensure that the Dabolim International Airport is not shut down after Mopa Airport becomes operational, among other things.

Camorlim Sarpanch Basilio Fernandes has also drawn Pillai’s attention towards the coal pollution in the State, besides the implementation of the 73rd and 74th Amendment of the Panchayat Raj Act for the efficient decentralisation of powers at the grassroots level, to effectively carry out local administration.

“Our request is that the Dabolim airport should not be closed to the public after Mopa Airport starts operations, and the government should not use the excuse that the airline operators are not willing to operate from the Dabolim Airport, to shut it down,” he said in the memorandum.

“Also see that the transportation of coal does not increase because it will affect our lives and tourism, and will turn our beautiful golden Goa into black Goa,” he said.

The memorandum also appealed for proper disbursal of grants to develop the infrastructure of the panchayat and to help promote agriculture by providing farmers with financial assistance and machines like tillers and harvesters, as the cost of labour has made it close to impossible to cultivate land.
