The 2017 Assembly elections seem to have given a new lease of life to the slums in Camrabhat. As elections approached the slum area, which had just one public toilet for around 250 shanties, got another one.
Also, the roads which were full of potholes have been given a new look with hot-mixing besides pavers. The drains which were never looked into for the past five years have also been cleaned and the garbage lying around for months has been cleared.
“This happens only during elections and after that no one cares about it,” said a resident Sanket Talwar.
During elections Camrabhat, which has nearly 4000 votes, became a major attraction for all politicians.
Though a bastion and vote bank of Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate, BJP candidate Dattaprasad Naik made inroads here and also held a crucial meeting addressed by Karnataka BJP leader BS Yedyurappa, simply because of the migrant factor. Yedyurappa’s meeting saw a huge crowd which kind off baffled Monserrate, who was seen taking many rounds in the area thereafter.
