MARGAO: To tackle the plastic menace, Camurlim panchayat on Saturday deliberated on initiatives to treat the plastic waste and convert it into blocks.
The panchayat also resolved to allot a place for the self-help groups of the village to sell their products. The main agenda of the special gram sabha chaired by sarpanch Basilio Fernandes on Saturday, was to discuss the Gram Panchayat Development Plan.
Basilio informed that nearly 73 gram sabha members attended the meeting and discussed the issues related to panchayat.
“The main point in the agenda was to prepare and discuss the GPDP. After the deliberation it was decided to have a mechanism to tackle the plastic waste. Our panchayat already has the facilities to tackle the dry and wet waste generated in the panchayat area”, he said.
The sarpanch said a mechanism will be put in place to handle the plastic waste and convert it into blocks. The panchayat also resolved to have a bazaar-type facility for the self-help groups from the jurisdiction of Camurlim panchayat.
“A place will be allotted to the self-help groups so that they can sell their products. We are planning to have a weekly bazaar for such groups, if they desire,” said Basilio.
