Can build Chopdekar Memorial GHS if parents, MLA take charge of enrolment: CM

PORVORIM: After Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar expressed the need for a new building for Chopdekar Memorial Government High School (GHS) at Agarwada at the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant assured to build a new building for the school if the parents and the local MLA took the responsibility to maintain the enrolment of students.

“We are aware that the school building has completed 54 years. Meanwhile, we had renovated the building and a smart class was started too. Currently there are 164 students in the eight government aided schools in Mandrem constituency. Many times aided schools attract students from other government schools. So it is necessary to get the assurance that enrollment at Chopdekar Memorial school will be maintained if a new building were to be built,” said Sawant. Chief Minister also promised to temporarily repair the school building during Diwali vacation.

Meanwhile, Arolkar brought it to the notice of CM Sawant that the school was not renovated.

“The government officials took a month just to inspect the school. Recently a part of the ceiling fell. Fortunately, it was a Sunday so no student was harmed,” said Arolkar.

He also informed that the schools have been achieving 100% results in SSC exam for the last six years.
