SANGUEM: Notwithstanding government’s har ghar jal claim of providing tap water to every part of Goa, residents of Darguinim ward in Bhati village are solely dependent on well water for all their needs including cooking. And the reason is shrouded in mystery.
The government had installed two public taps and even a pipeline to provide potable water to the villagers. However, that is no longer functioning as the pipeline has mysteriously disappeared.
Though the village well remains filled with sufficient water the quality of water they consume is questionable.
The government primary school has a tap installed, which is a mere showpiece and students also drink raw water from the well.
In the absence of a potable drinking water pipeline in the village, the villagers have made their own arrangements to pump the water to an overhead tank and then supply it to the households.
Darguinim has about 20 houses and all the households are presently using well water. There are another four to five households which face drinking water problems as they draw water directly from the well.
Villagers also informed that some years back PWD had tried to lay a metal pipeline to supply water to the village, but some miscreants damaged it and since then there is no potable water to this area.
