MARGAO: At the extraordinary gram sabha of Cana-Benaulim village panchayat, objections were raised to the Amendments of the Goa Land Development & Building Construction Regulations, 2010 and the proposed Jetty Policy 2022.
The gram sabha also resolved to appoint various standing committees such as the Benaulim Bio-diversity Management, Garbage Management and Village Development Committees.
Avinash Tavares was the resource person who presented the Jetty Policy 2022.
Amongst the major points highlighted were that the policy is not available in the local language, local stakeholders are not taken into consideration, no role of the panchayat in the decision-making process and lack of revenue to the local bodies.
Royla Fernandes explained the Amendments of the Goa Land Development & Building Construction Regulations, 2010.
The gram sabha also resolved to submit their objections to the Chief Town Planner.
“After reviewing and discussing all the proposed amendments, the gram sabha of Cana-Benaulim panchayat would like to state that these amendments find no space for the common man but are purely the privilege of the builders, hoteliers and developers. The amendments are piecemeal,” read their letter of objections.
“The gram sabha opposes all the amendments with the exception of No. 2 in the interest of the future of Goa and demands that they do not get notified. The Amendments to Goa Land Development & Building Construction Regulations, 2010 should flow naturally as a subset from a larger perspective plan as is the norm of planning and in the interest of the people of the State,” the letter added.
