CANACONA: A major tragedy was reported on NH66 at Rajbagh, Canacona wherein three persons died on the spot following a collision between two cars on Wednesday evening.
Five others, who sustained serious injuries in the accident, have been admitted to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao.
The deceased have been identified as Harish Ulhas Nagekar (35), Veena Ulhas Nagekar (60) and Ulhas Ram Nagekar (64).
Those who sustained injuries in the accident are Saavi Harish Nagekar (2), Harshita Harish Nagekar (26), Samisha Nagekar (26), Sukashta Kankonkar (3) and Sai Nagekar (13).
According to Canacona Police, all of the above persons originally from Majali, Karwar, are residents of Upasnagar, Vasco.
According sources, the accident took place at 6.30 pm when a vehicle coming from Margao to Karwar hit the divider and rammed into a car which was proceeding from Karwar to Margao.
The driver and occupant of car which was proceeding from Karwar to Margao, died on the spot.
On receiving information about the fatal accident, the police rushed to the site and rescued the injured persons by cutting open the doors. They were first admitted to Canacona Community Health Centre.
Canacona PI Chandrakant Gawas conducted the panchanama and further investigation is on.
It is pertinent to note that earlier there have been eight accidents reported along the route but no firm action has been initiated by the authorities as yet. Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar was present at the site.
Meanwhile, in another accident reported at Davorlim, on Wednesday evening one person was injured after the passenger bus proceeding from Nessai to Margao went off the road near Davorlim and rammed into four two-wheelers and a parked car. However, the bus driver and passengers escaped unhurt.
The Maina Curtorim Police said they are yet ascertain the accident details. However, the police said it appears that the driver lost control over the bus and investigation is in progress.
According to police, all five vehicles were damaged and a person who was in a shop is learnt to have sustained injuries.
Police said no one was seriously injured in the accident and added that they will record the statements of the vehicle owners.

Teen rider dies after colliding with Bal Rath at Cotombi
Quepem: Eighteen-year old Jesward Martins from Chandor died after ramming his two-wheeler into a Bal Rath school bus at Avedem, Cotombi on Wednesday morning.
According to sources, the accident took place at a sharp turn when Jesward had a head-on collision with the bus of Immaculate Conception School. He died on his way to the hospital.
Sources said Martins was on his way to the gym at Xeldem. Quepem Police are investigating the case.
