CANACONA: Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) presented and passed a budget of Rs 17.18 crore for the financial year 2014-15.
The highlight of the budget was the anticipated expenditure of Rs 3.48 crore by way of government grants for developmental works and an almost equal amount of Rs 3.23 crore towards the salaries and other expenses.
CMC in its budgetary meeting on Friday, anticipated revenue receipts to the tune of Rs 8.43 crore, as against the previous years (2013-14) receipts of Rs 8.06 crore. The CMC also targeted revenue from different sources including government grants of Rs 17.18 crore.
On the expenditure front, Rs 12.57 crore has been budgeted for 2014-15, as against the previous year (2013-14) expenses of Rs 12.13 crore, with about Rs 4.61 projected as income over expenditure.
CMC has anticipated receipts from municipal rates/taxes (Rs 2.27 crore), realization under Special Act (Rs 5,000), revenue derived from municipal property (Rs 1.38 crore), government grants/contributions (Rs 3.48 crore) and income from miscellaneous heads including suspense receipts. The CMC has projected Rs 17.18 crore as income for 2014-15.
The council approved various expenses with about Rs 3.23 crore towards staff salaries and wages of workers, including daily wage workers, while Rs 39.5 lakh has been earmarked for public safety, which includes electrical fixtures, etc.
Besides, Rs 1.77 crore has been provided for public health and conveyances, while Rs 83.75 lakh has been kept on hold as miscellaneous expenditure.
Chief Officer Sudhin Natu was present along with other staff, while CMC Chairperson Mahadev Dessai chaired the budget meeting in the presence of seven other councillors, while two councillors remained absent.
