PANJIM: The Canacona bypass that was inaugurated three months ago has been officially named after former chief minister and defence minister late Manohar Parrikar on Thursday.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari tweeted the news late last night.
“Paying homage to late Shri Manohar Parrikar Ji, the former Raksha Mantri and former Chief Minister of Goa, I feel happy and privileged to announce that the Canacona Bypass has been renamed as ‘Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass’. We bow in respect to one of our nation’s greatest sons,” Gadkari tweeted.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had announced that the bypass would be named after Parrikar.
The Canacona bypass on National Highway 66 has been built at a cost of Rs 294 crore.
The work of the bypass includes three bridges namely Talpona, Galgibag and Mashem and has six underpasses. The total length of the road is 6.21 kms.
