Canacona gets 30-tonne rice less

Contrary to government claims that sufficient ration is provided to its citizens, Canacona is receiving 30 tonnes of rice less for the distribution to 11,845 ration cardholders of Canacona taluka.
According to the data collected from taluka’s civil supplies section, Canacona has received only 63 tonnes of rice as against 93 tonnes, the quota normally the taluka used to receive.
“This is 30 tonnes less, which can put several ration cardholders to great hardships,” informed sources.
The taluka has 14 fair price shops servicing 11,845 ration cards in different areas of Canacona taluka.
The 8,580 APL cardholders from the taluka are eligible for 10 kgs of rice with a price tag of Rs 8.90/kg, while 2,445 BPL families get 35 kgs of rice at Rs 6.15/kg.
The 807 Antodaya ration cardholders get 35 kgs of rice at Rs 3/kg, while 10 kilos of rice is given by the government free of cost to 13 families having Annapurna ration cards in the taluka.
Sources also informed that 2 kgs of wheat is eligible to APL cardholders, while only 500 grams of sugar is sold to all the ration cardholders.
