CANACONA: The Kumeri farmers of Gaondongrim along with local MLA and Deputy Speaker Isidore Fernandes submitted a petition with documents to the Chief Minister to claim the possession of a part of forest land in the village since last 55 years.
Upon hearing the plea of the affected Kumeri farmers, the Chief Minister assured them that the forest officials will visit the village to resolve the matter in a week’s time.
It may be recalled that the Forest Department a few weeks ago had started demarcating this chunk of land bearing Survey No. 3/0 and 6/0 and started erecting poles which the farmers of Gaondongrim are claiming that the land was allotted to them to use and cultivate since 1964-65 during the tenure of Dayanand Bandodkar as the Chief Minister of Goa.
As the issue remained unresolved at the local level, the local MLA and Deputy Speaker Isidore Fernandes had sought another urgent meeting of the affected farmers with the chief minister.
