CANACONA: Canacona Police, since the nationwide lockdown was initiated due to COVID-19 pandemic on March 25, till date booked 3,956 cases under various Sections and netted an amount of Rs 4,19,400 in fines.
They arrested 60 persons for violating prohibitory orders and seized 19 vehicles during the same period. The police also filed 27 FIRs under Section 188 and 269 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for defying the lockdown orders pertaining to the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897.
Data obtained from Canacona Police Station revealed that 60 persons were arrested for violating prohibitory orders which are in force due to lockdown.
A total of 19 vehicles were seized during the same period.
Besides, 543 persons were booked for not wearing masks in public places.
Further, 274 and 267 cases were booked for spitting and disposing garbage in public places respectively during the 60-day lockdown period.
Motor vehicle cases topped during the period with 2,707 violations booked in the jurisdiction of Canacona Police Station netting over Rs 3 lakh.
Further, 59 cases were booked against hawkers for obstructing free movement of the pedestrians on the footpaths, besides roads.
