Canacona police register case against polyhouse fabricators

Agri Dept says the victims claimed to have been cheated of over Rs 1 cr; Both companies accused of shutting down their offices in Goa

CANACONA: Canacona police registered a case under various sections of IPC against directors of two Bangalore based polyhouse fabricators for committing criminal breach of trust and cheating.
Seventeen South Goa farmers filed a complaint to the Agriculture Department that these companies in the past have cheated them to the tune of over a crore during 2015 to 2017. Following which, the department officially filed a complaint at Canacona police station.
It is alleged in one of the complaints that one Devidas Gaonkar, managing director of Sun-Bio Organics India Pvt Ltd having an office registered in Bangalore, obtained the contract of constructing polyhouses in Goa during 2015 to 2017.
Seventeen farmers from Canacona, Sanguem and Quepem contracted the company to construct polyhouses under the scheme of protected cultivation under the National Horticulture Mission (NHM) during that period. The accused has allegedly parted away and abandoned the project with the loan, which was sanctioned to the farmers by a financial institution by allegedly committing irregularities. 
In a similar complaint, Venketesh Laxman and Anil Reddey both directors of M/S Surya Agritech, Banglore based company have been booked for cheating the South Goan farmers to the tune of over 15 lakhs.
Canacona Police inspector and investigation officer in both the cases said that all of the accused persons have shut down their local offices in Goa. Acting on the complaint, they have registered cases against all the accused persons under sections 406, 420 read with 34 IPC for criminal breach of trust and cheating.
