CANACONA: With rains providing the much-needed respite on Thursday, Canacona taluka is much ahead of seasonal quota at this time of monsoon recording 1220.10 mm of rainfall against last year’s 1110.8 mm.
Chapoli dam, considered to be the lifeline of people of Canacona, is also providing a promising sight with the dam’s reservoirs presently holding 34.10 RL (reduced level) of water as against 33.75 RL to the correspondent period last year.
June saw 1021 mm of rainfall with dam level reaching 33.17 RL as against 939.20 mm of rainfall and dam at 33.12 RL respectively.
Sources at the taluka observatory credit the big jump from June end to July 4 to the heavy rains for the last two days.
According to sources, many farmers especially from the hinterlands at Gaondongrim, and Cotigao are upbeat with rains lashing reasonably well during the period.
