Canacona reports its first coronavirus case

CANACONA: Canacona registered its first COVID-19 case after a person from the taluka was tested positive on Tuesday. The victim has been admitted to Shiroda Primary Health Centre (PHC) and 26 members of his joint family have been asked to undergo home quarantine after the health officials collected their swabs, which were taken to Hospicio, Margao for testing. The news of a person from Canacona municipal jurisdiction testing positive for COVID-19 infection went viral on various social media platforms. Confirming the news, the Canacona Health Centre (CHC) officials said the patient is a driver by profession and has been admitted to Shiroda Health Centre for treatment. CHC officials informed that since the patient is asymptomatic, he has been admitted to the facility at Shiroda. “The health officials visited the house of the patient and collected the swab samples of around 26 members of his family. The samples were taken to Hospicio for testing” a Canacona health official said. All the family members of the patient have been asked to isolate themselves in their houses to avoid transmission, the source added.
