CANACONA: Pre-monsoon showers lashed Canacona too in the wee hours of Monday, submerging roads and streets in Cotigao and Gaondongrim. In the evening, the rains caught the people of Chaudi unawares.
The rains which began at about 10.15 am continued till about 1 pm, and rainwater flooded many low-lying areas including residential localities.
“Most streets and pathways at Cotigao and Gaondongrim were clogged with rainwater till Monday evening. It’s unusual to watch rainwater gushing down from mountainous regions,” said Devidas Gaonkar of Cotigao.
The atmosphere remained mostly dampened, as sky remained cloudy, with residents expecting rain later in the night. Mild lightning was also witnessed as the rains caught many late evening shoppers at Chaudi town unawares. Humidity was exceptionally high on Sunday night and the early morning rains brought the soaring heat down, bringing relief to people.
Chaudi, Shristhal, Gaondongrim, Cotigao, parts of Poinguinim and Loliem received rainfall taking many people off-guard.
