MARGAO: The fate of the three arrested former Canacona Municipal Chief officers – Dipak Desai, Pradip Naik and Prashant Shirodkar – will be decided on Monday by the Special Court hearing the Canacona building collapse case.
The trio had moved the court of Special Judge, Nutan Sardesai for bail after their arrests by the Crime Branch in the building collapse case.
The trio has separately contended before the Special Judge that their role in issuing the permissions was basically administrative in nature, adding that the responsibility of checking the building construction and inspections rests with other departments and officers.
On the other hand, the Prosecution has vehemently opposed the bail applications of the three officers on a host of grounds, including the fact that they are required in custody to confront them with the absconding builders and other accused persons.
Former CMC Chief Officer, Prashant Shirodkar, who was the first to be arrested amongst the trio, has been behind bars for a month and half now.
Meanwhile, the Special Court, Margao on Sunday remanded Dipak Desai and Pradip Naik to further custody after the expiry of their remand period.
