CANACONA: With Canacona witnessing frequent accidents on NH66 highway, locals once again have raised engineering flaws in the design of the road which has not seen any changes except some cosmetic since its construction during Portuguese rule in Goa.
Canacona witnessed two motor vehicular accidents during last couple of days, in the first instance a refrigerated van carrying milk products from Bangalore to Margao turned upside down after it was hit by an oncoming car.
The impact was such that both the vehicles suffered major damages.
In another case, a car after losing control turned on its side at Dapot in Loliem.
The occupants were returning from a pilgrimage to Vailankani in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu escaped with minor injuries. Vishant Prabhu, a social activist from Canacona, while speaking to this correspondent blamed the PWD officials for failing to take cognisance of the complaints made by the locals over faults in road engineering while constructing the NH66 from Polem to Cuncolim.
“There are blind curves, uneven and narrow stretches together with improper road banking at the turns, all of these make this part of the road a deadly cocktail for accidents to take place,” complained Vishant Prabhu.
