Canada Issues Travel Advisory for India Amid Tensions Over Security Concerns

Canada
has issued an updated travel advisory for India, urging its citizens to
exercise a high degree of caution and avoid all travel to the Union Territory
of Jammu and Kashmir. This advisory cites the unpredictable security situation
in the region, with concerns about terrorism, militancy, civil unrest, and
kidnapping.

However,
it’s important to note that this advisory excludes travel to or within the
Union Territory of Ladakh.

The
decision to issue this advisory comes amid growing tensions between Canada and
India, fueled by Canada’s accusations that the Indian government may have been
involved in the killing of Khalistan extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June.

Canadian
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau emphasized the seriousness of the matter and
called on the Indian government to address it seriously. He stressed that
Canada’s approach is based on presenting facts and working with India, rather
than provoking or escalating the situation.

This
development aligns with concerns echoed by Washington, highlighting the
diplomatic implications of this issue.
