Canara Bank Q3 profit up 53%

Canara Bank disclosed a phenomenal rise in standalone net profit for the quarter ended December 2008 due to better topline figures.
During the quarter, the profit of the company rose 52.89 per cent to Rs 701.5 crore from Rs 458.83 crore in the same quarter previous year on better top line.
Interest earned for the quarter rose 30.29 per cent to Rs 4625.44 crore, while total income for the quarter rose 31.40 per cent to Rs 5382.9 crore, when compared with the prior year period.
During the quarter, the company reported earnings of Rs 17.11 a share, registering increase of 52.90 per cent over the same quarter previous year.
