VASCO: Former Sancoalesarpanch RamakantBorkaron Tuesday demanded that the State Election Commission (SEC) immediately withdraw the ‘Ball’symbol allotted for candidates contesting August 10 panchayat elections and to reallocate the symbol.

Speaking to mediapersons, Borkar who is seeking re-election pointed out that the ‘Ball’ symbol was allotted to Revolutionary Goans(RG) party during the February 2022 Assembly elections. The same symbol is now allotted to candidates contesting panchayat elections, he said adding that it is creating confusion in the minds of voters.

According to Borkar, though panchayat polls are not fought on party lines yet some voters have been asking him whether he was backed by the RG.

“I have been allotted ‘Ball’ as symbol and it has led to the confusion in the minds of the voters who have misunderstood that the candidate with a ‘Ball’ symbol is backed by RG party,” he said.

Seeking to know wisdom of the State Election Commission, Borkar demanded to know why other political party symbols such as Hand, Lotus, Broom,Lion or Coconut were not allotted to the candidates.

Borkar said that though campaigning has started still it was not too late and that the SEC could admit its mistake and change the symbol of the candidates who have been allotted ‘Ball’ and replace it with other unreserved symbols.

“The ‘Ball’ symbol has its own advantage and disadvantage,” he added.
