Candidates’ allegations are false, say NET officials

VASCO: According to the National Eligibility Test (NET) centre coordinator Saroj Kujur, the allegations that candidates were not allowed inside the exam hall despite arriving on time were false and baseless.

He claimed the candidates showed up at the centre, not five, but fifteen minutes after the first exam had started.
520 candidates had registered for the CBSE NET 2015, out of which 308 appeared for the test at Kendriya Vidyalaya-II in Shantinagar, Vasco on Sunday. Around 20 candidates – mostly from North Goa – were denied entry into the school as they reached late. The agitated candidates then protested outside the gate.
“We had clear instructions to follow the standard procedure, under which we were told to close the main gate at 9.30 am. A latecomer even jumped over the gate and went to the controller’s room with the demand to give them entry. The others also opened up the gate and came inside the school. They threatened that they won’t allow anyone to answer the papers, and thus I had to call the police to avoid chaos inside the school premises,” said Kujur.
He continued, “It was the decision of the examination-in-charge from Delhi that no one should be allowed after the reporting time as we had back-to-back exams and could not change the exam pattern, which was held for the first time in KV school.”
According to NET officials, the rules laid down by the CBSE were prefixed. The reporting time was 9 am, the distribution of test booklets was to be completed at 9.20, and the candidates were to open the seal of the booklets at 9.25. The exam would begin at 9.30 am.
“Allowing students after the timings was not at all possible, even if the candidates had the excuse that the bridge was closed. Four of our staff, who were a part of the exams, had come from North Goa, and thus, talking about closure of the bridge and other excuses could not be entertained,” said a NET official.
The incident has left the NET officials surprised and shocked. They will soon submit a report on the incident to the CBSE officials in Delhi.
