“The screening committee is meeting on January 9 after which the CEC will meet the following day. We expect an announcement by January 10 evening while the remaining names, if left out, will be announced by January 12,” AICC Secretary Girish Chodankar told reporters on Friday. The party, he said, has several leaders expressing desire to ally with others in the upcoming polls.
To a question whether the higher ups would solely endorse the names, Chodankar, also Goa Congress’ spokesperson asserted that all would be taken into confidence. “Our party believes in decentralization of power unlike in the BJP, MGP and NCP where one person take a final decision,” he commented.
In what could be an interesting revelation, the party – after facing humiliating defeat in the 2012 elections, now claims their aim is to win the hearts of the people than winning elections. “We are not desperate for power,” he said.
AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi, who is presently abroad is expected to address a rally in the north district. The date and the venue were however not disclosed at the press briefing.
