PANJIM, FEB 27
Candidates have taken strong objection to use of employer identity cards as identity proofs for casting vote at the CCP elections scheduled for March 13.
Surendra Furtado, who is contesting from Ward IX    brought it out to the attention of the returning officer that the employer identity cards can be used for bogus voting.
Mr Cunha Oscar, who is contesting as an independent from Ward XVI, also felt that allowing usage of ID issued by an employer will give an opportunity to those intending to do bogus voting.
A voter will be allowed to produce any of the seven documents as proof of his identity while voting for   CCP election.
This include – EPIC card,  PAN card,   ID issued by   any of the Central or the State government  department, driving licence, passport, ID issued by any  recognised  educational institute to its students, and photo ID issued  by a  private employer.
With many  contestants taking objection to  allowing  photo ID issued by a  private employer  as valid document  during voting, indications  are that  authorities  might not accept  it  as proof of ID.
Raising another issue, Adv Avinash Bhonsle has objected to decision of the SEC to declare results of CCP immediately after voting on ground that EVMs may be tempered with.
“It is possible  that EVMs  may  be  tempered  with if  there is power failure  in the night,”  said  Adv  Bhonsle  who is contesting from Ward XX.
He further pointed out  that  there   can be  also  be law  and order  problem  as counting  would  take place  on the same  day.
Nelson Cabral, who is contesting from Ward II once again, raised his complaint before RO about some government officers campaigning along with Taleigao MLA.
