Candidates, supporters spending sleepless nights ahead of results

PONDA: With the election results scheduled for May 23, the election candidates and their supporters are spending sleepless nights.
The election results are important for both the Congress and the BJP as whoever wins the by-elections will have chance at forming government. Both these major parties have 14 each MLAs in the current assembly; and if BJP wins all the three seats that went for by-polls, it would retain power. On the contrary, if Congress wins these seats, it would get a chance to form government.
Earlier there were speculations that either Subash Shirodkar of BJP or Deepak Dhavalikar of MGP would win the Shiroda seat. Of late, however, political observers are forecasting that Mahadev Naik of Congress would win the election as the silent voters have favoured him. In fact, Naik’s supporters are enthusiastic of his victory and Naik himself says that he is confident of his victory.
Though the candidates and their supporters campaigned hard in Shiroda constituency, political observers say that the fate of the candidates would be decided not by the active supporters but the silent voters. “Shiroda constituency has a large number of silent voters,” they quipped.
As for the supporters, the victory of their candidate would brighten their prospect of getting jobs in the government or even in the private sector. And for this reason, even the supporters of the candidates are spending sleepless nights. The supporters say that one month appears to be one year for them.
