The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Pune, conducted a ‘Familiarisation Exercise on Disaster Management’ at a day-long workshop at Shri Jambleshwar Temple, Ximer-Candolim, on Tuesday.
The workshop was organised by the Collectorate of North Goa District for coastal villages of Candolim-Calangute and surrounding areas.
The NDRF team led by Assistant Commander S A Ahmed and Army personnel explained various techniques and precautions in times of flood, cyclone, landslides, etc.
The NDRF team displayed uses of life jackets which are 100% guaranteed life-saving objects. The NDRF team also created awareness on uses of empty plastic bottles, cans, etc, during disasters like floods.
The NDRF team also explained various types of first aid to meet any eventuality with live demonstrations to help people move from one place to another place with the help of a rope, etc.
Earlier, the Disaster Management workshop was inaugurated by Calangute MLA and EDC Chairman Agnelo Fernandes in the presence of Deputy Collector Dasrath Redkar, Bardez Mamlatdar Gaurish Sankhwalkar, Candolim Sarpanch Anand Shettigar, Candolim Deputy Sarpanch Sandra Fialho, panchas and others.
Residents of residents, who have been living in fear of a national disaster in view of the stranded vessel River Princess, were led by River Princess Hatao Manch Convenor Fermino Fernandes, who is also a panchayat member of Candolim Panchayat.
A large number of people, including hoteliers and locals, attended the workshop on national disaster management.
Earlier, Deputy Collector Dasrath Redkar welcomed the chief guest Agnelo Fernandes and others, while Bardez Mamlatdar Gaurish Sankhwalkar proposed the vote of thanks.
