Candolim Panchayat orders demolition of illegal constructions

PANJIM: The Candolim village panchayat has passed orders on a complaint filed by the Goa Foundation against illegal constructions raised by Amara by the Sea (Calangute) and Lloyd St Jude Joachim Fernandes in the 200 metre no-development zone of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) of Calangute village.

The order requires demolition of eight cottages, swimming pool, reception block with security cabin, cement flooring, compound wall and sewage holding tank mentioned in its site inspection report.

Earlier, during an inspection conducted by the Goa Coastal Zone management Authority (GCZMA) on March 3, 2023, the Goa Foundation had established that eight concrete structures with concrete foundation have been put up at the site, each with around 3-4 rooms, along with a swimming pool, Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and other structures.

The GCZMA’s NOC was only for temporary wooden cottages.

The Goa State Pollution Control Board has already rejected the application of Amari by the Sea for consent under the Air and Water Act.

Earlier, all occupation of the premises was suspended after the Bombay High Court at Goa.
