MAPUSA: The Candolim panchayat team headed by sarpanch Blaise Fernandes inspected an alleged illegal structure in No Development Zone (NDZ) in the village.

The site inspection was conducted following complaints from the villagers claiming that the said construction is illegal and is within 30 metres of HTL.
The inspection revealed that the concerned person has constructed swimming pool with laterite stones, a toilet, a stage and a ground floor with laterite stones and concrete. It may be recalled that Calangute Constituency Forum had filed complaints against the alleged illegal construction at Candolim Beach to the panchayat, NGPDA and other concerned authorities and had requested them to initiate necessary action and restore the beach to its original state.
In a letter to GCZMA, NGPDA, CS and other authorities, it sought action against the alleged illegal construction of structures and swimming pool using laterite stones within 100 metres from LTL in a plot at Candolim.
The Forum claimed that the said owner has encroached upon the government land towards seaside which is not permissible as per the law and the concerned authorities should take immediate action and demolish the construction to restore the beach area to its original state.
“This is a total violation of CRZ norms. Permanent swimming pool is constructed by destroying the sand dunes. Well and ground floor are constructed with concrete and laterite stones within 30 metres of HTL. We demand the authorities to demolish this illegal construction and restore it to original state”, the local claimed.
Premanand Diukar, president of Calangute Constituency Forum said, “This activity of illegal construction right within the 30 metres of HTL is carried out while taking advantage of pandemic since this construction was not exiting before”.
