Canoes seized, sand attached at Camurlim

MAPUSA: Mines and Geology Department, Captain of Ports and Police conducted a joint raid at Camurlim wherein 13 unregistered canoes were seized and a stack of illegally extracted sand was attached.

Team of officials from Mines and Geology Department, Captain of Ports, Camurlim Talathi and Mapusa Police seized the sand and handed it over to Captain of Ports. A stack of illegal extracted sand of 25 cubic meters was attached. In this connection, Sudhir Mandrekar, Assistant Geologist, Directorate of Mines and Geologist, lodged a complaint at Mapusa Police Station. Acting on the complaint, Mapusa Police have registered an offence under Section 379 read with 34 of Indian Penal Code and Section 3, 38 of Goa Daman and Diu minor mineral concession rules 1985 and booked one Nitin Mashelkar resident of Camurlim and unknown persons for committing theft and carrying illegal extraction of sand without proper permission.ASI Suryakant Shetye is investigating the case.
