Cansaulim locals submit written objection to rail overbridge

VASCO: A few Cansaulim residents on Monday submitted their written objection to railway overbridge at the personal hearing on the land acquisition in the Mormugao Deputy Collector’s office. However, the locals said they are fine with the railway underpass.

“Why is the govt in hurry to undertake this railway overbridge when the people are already opposing the double tracking project? It looks like govt has decided to trouble common people,” asked Olencio Simoes, resident of Cansaulim.

“One way govt is taking loans and paying salaries and on the other hand govt is building infrastructure. The Chief Minister has said that he will decrease the coal quantity by fifty per cent then why do we need railway overbridge of 3 kms. MDR road is 8 metres and there is a plan to make this road into a highway. We have given our written objection to the govt opposing this rail overbridge. If still govt wants then they could build railway underpass instead of overbridge,” Simoes said.

Another resident Gerald Fernandes said, “The flyover bridge will cause great destruction which cross more than 2 kms. I think there is a hidden plan to have MDR from Velsao to Mobor.”

When asked whether he is fine with the railway underpass, Gerald replied in the affirmative.

He said, “We do not want that our future generation should suffer because of this overbridge. There are three heritage houses which will be affected. The railway overbridge is to support hotel lobbies and builders. We do not want our village to turn into a city. The hearing will be held on three subsequent days.
