DABOLIM: Clarifying on the pending work of asphalting of the road from Cansaulim market to the four-lane highway, Minister for Forest and Environment and Cortalim constituency MLA, Alina Saldanha said the Cansaulim-Verna road file was moved simultaneously with other roads taken up in Cortalim constituency.
Saldanha, however, stated that due to the huge cost involved and due to an estimate of Rs 5.71 crore, this road was taken up under the Central Road Fund (CRF).
“The work involves road widening, hot-mixing and beautification of a stretch of 1 km from Cansaulim to provide villagers some space for walking and relaxation in the evening,” she informed.
“The file has been followed regularly through the PWD and it has now been passed by the Central Road Fund (CRF) authorities and is in the tendering process for execution. However, due to the election code of conduct, the work has had to wait till the completion of elections and the lifting of the model code of Conduct,” stated Saldanha.
While blaming the Congress government for not asphalting the road, Saldanha said the road was not earmarked for asphalting during the Congress tenure.
“I am aware that this road needs repairs and beautification and it is being taken up in the second phase of planned works,” said Saldanha.
