Captain of Ports officials happy with villagers’ guidance on River Sal

Six kms of survey completed from Chinchinim to Varca

MARGAO: Captain of Ports officials on Friday surveyed a stretch of River Sal that is going to be desilted shortly along with the villagers.

Captain Premlal Sirsaikar said he was very happy with the co-operation and guidance given by the villagers.

“The villagers had some apprehensions because they were not taken into confidence but that is done away with now and we are happy that they actually showed us the patches that need to be desilted,” said Sirsaikar.

The officials along with villagers surveyed six kms of the River Sal from Poriewado in Deussua Chinchinim to Varca near the Chequers Dance Hall in three different vessels.

“Today we have completed survey of the second phase and have now advised the villagers to form a committee or appoint someone who will monitor the desilting,” said Capt Sirsaikar while agreeing that there is sufficient depth at some places where desilting will not be required.

“There has to be proper depth for uniform flow of water as only then the water will get aerated as presently the oxygen level of the water is quite low,” he said expressing happiness that the local people have also understood the need for desilting.
