PONDA: A car belonging to a professional photographer from Tarvalem-Shiroda was reportedly set ablaze by miscreants in the wee hours of Monday, causing a loss of about Rs 1.5 lakh.
The car owner, Shripad Naik, suspects the involvement of some locals from the village and fears this is the result of an ongoing enmity.
Speaking to Herald, Naik said his car (GA-05-E-6233) was parked by the roadside near his house.
“At about 3 am, my neighbour and I suddenly heard an explosion and we came rushing out, only to find that my car was engulfed in flames,” said Naik.
Incidentally, the window of the car was found smashed by a large stone.
“We alerted Ponda PI C L Patil and the fire services, who rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire.”
Naik and some neighbours suspect the involvement of some village locals in the arson incident.
Ponda police has registered the offence against unknown persons. PI Patil also agreed with the general belief that the car had been deliberately set ablaze by miscreants, but added that police investigations would shed more light on the incident.
