Car driven by an underage driver: IGP

The over speeding car, spotted for blocking the ambulance, was driven by an underage driver.

In a late night incident update, Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh said a criminal case against the guardian of the minor is registered and a report against the latter will be sent to the Juvenile Justice Board.

“Goa Police having taken cognisance of social media posts of an over speeding vehicle obstructing an Ambulance has taken stringent action as per Motor Vehicles Act against the guardian of the offending minor driver who obstructed the Ambulance. A criminal case has also been registered at Verna PS against one Johny Lobo of Rivona, Fatimawado, Quepem, the guardian of the minor driver,” Singh said.  The FIR under sections 279, 336, 269, 188 IPC read with Sections 4, 122, 180 MV Act is booked for handing over or causing to hand over the vehicle to minor without having a driving license.  The IGP further informed that a social report would be sent to the JJB against the minor. “The nakas all over Goa have been directed to ensure that such cases where they observe that vehicles are being driven by minors, be referred to respective police stations for taking action against their guardians/parents for permitting them to drive. Pertinently, under age driving is an offence under MV Act,” he added.

The Transport Department will separately launch prosecution as per amended provision of Motor Vehicle Act which has stringent provision.
