OLD GOA: Two occupants of a car had a lucky escape when the vehicle accidentally went into the Mandovi River at the Ribandar ferry wharf in the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to reports, the incident occurred when a man from Chimbel and a friend were proceeding to the friend’s house at Chorao Island at about 2 am.
Since the ferry services had ended for the day, the man signalled to the ferry crew at the Chorao ferry wharf for a special ferry to take him across the river.
As the ferry was approaching the Ribandar ferry wharf, the man erroneously assumed that the ferry had reached the ramp and began reversing the car and the vehicle went straight into the river.
Both occupants managed to escape from the vehicle and they swam across to safety. They later informed the Old Goa fire officials about the incident. A fire and emergency team led by Damodar Pernekar pulled out the submerged vehicle from the river at about 8 am.
