PONDA: A 10-year-old school boy was injured when a car proceeding from Khandepar to Usgao hit him while he was waiting for a bus on Saturday morning.

Following the incident, the locals blamed the panchayat and government for not constructing a bus shed at Opa junction despite knowing the fact that the area is an accident-prone zone.

Khandepar locals and the school Parent Teacher Association members, worried over the safety of students, had demanded a bus shed on urgent basis at this dangerous Opa junction few days back.

A local Sandeep Parkar claimed that the bus shed area has been encroached by some vendors.

“The panchayat should work for the safety of students. Parents are feared as four months ago a truck had rammed into a hotel damaging entire hotel at Opa junction. This incident could turn up into a disaster but the students and some locals, who were waiting for a bus, had a lucky escape,” he added.

“Around 15 days back, the parents had demanded a bus shed at the Opa junction as hundreds of students wait for buses by the side of a narrow road,” Parkar added.

It may be recalled that although the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had constructed a four lane bridge and was inaugurated three years ago, its approach ramp/road towards Ponda side is not completed till date.
