Car racers to display prowess on dirt track at Autocross championship

PONDA: Asserting that autocross racing is a safe sport, the Team Goa Racing Club has announced that it will host the Dirt 5.0 Autocross Championship 2022 at Farmagudi, on the grounds of the Goa Engineering College on November 27.

Addressing the media, Club secretary Vaibhav Marate and Vice President Abhishek Kakodkar explained that at a time, only one car driver displays his driving skill on the track.

“This race is to promote young talent from Goa at the National Level. There is no special track or dumping of soil on the ground for this race; the contestants who cover the track in the shortest time frame will be declared the winners,” said Kakodkar. He added that they expect at least 150 participants across the seven race categories that include a ladies’ race and an SUV Class, among others.

Fire, medical and police teams would be present at the venue, and Goan youth can show-off their skills on the track, instead of causing accidents on the streets, he said. Sports Minister Govind Gaude will attend the prize distribution function.
