Carambolim, Corlim tenant bodies dissolved

Irregularities in sluice gate operations affected farmers

PANJIM: Following instructions from the North Goa Collector, the Tiswadi Mamlatdar has dissolved the existing committees of Dhado Cantor Tenant Association of Carambolim and Corlim Khazan Tenants Association due to alleged irregularities and misappropriation of funds.
Herald had reported in May of the alleged irregularities and misappropriation in both the tenants associations that are operating the sluice gates and farmers are affected due to the irregularities.
The Tiswadi Mamlatdar, acting on powers vested under Rule 10 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Agricultural Tenancy (Discharge of Joint Responsibility of Tenants) Rule, 1975, dissolved the committees.
Herald had reported on how over 50 villagers who were into farming were affected due to irregularities by the sluice gate operators. Neither the authorities nor the government were aware of what was happening in the village and how the villagers were suffering due to the irregularities.
“Reference to our complaint to Mamlatdar, Collector and Revenue Minister and subsequent news report on Herald dated May 3 the government has finally identified that there exists corruption and irregularities and dissolved the managing committees,” said Baptish Pereira, a resident of Colrim who was fighting the irregularities of tenant associations.
Villagers have now demanded that immediate action be taken on the violators and before auctioning of the sluice gates the fields should be brought back to a cultivable state.
