PANJIM: Goenchea Raponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) on Friday buried the pit that was dug to connect the storm drain of Gera Astoria at Caranzalem to the existing drain alongside the road on the road to Dona Paula.
GRE claims that Gera has tempered with the original layout of the already existing drain to evacuate the mega storey apartment drainage into the sea, thereby violating CRZ regulations. GRE representative Gloria Po said, “Gera does not have a facility to keep their sewage, that’s why they are planning to flow all their sewage into the sea which will affect the traditional fishing activity.”
Another local said, “Gera is saying they will dispose storm water, but we claim that they will dispose the sewage water as the building does not have a sewage system.”
Challenging the allegation, a representative of Gera Developers said, “There is nothing illegal happening here. We have permission from the authority and the drain besides the road to which we are connecting is the municipality drain.”
At around 4.30 pm on Friday, agitated residents along with GRE representatives stopped the digging of the road which had almost come to its end, and decided to bury the pit with sand. The agitation resulted in a traffic jam. It was only when police reached the spot that the agitated residents calmed down.
Earlier when Gera had asked for the permission from CCP to dig the road, the standing committee of the corporation had decided not give permission to Gera Developers to connect their drains.
