VALPOI: The tiger carcass found at Golavli in Thane panchayat jurisdiction on Sunday has yet again established the presence of big cats in the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary.
Postmortem report of carcass of four-year-old male tiger failed to ascertain the exact cause of death. The Forest Department will send the tiger’s viscera to the forensic laboratory at Hyderabad and Dehradun to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The preliminary report rules out poisoning as the cause of death. The viscera report will ascertain the exact cause of death but it would take a long time, informed a forest department official.
According to renowned environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar, the nails of the dead tiger are reported to be missing.
Kerkar said, “A female tiger and her three cubs are still moving around in Golavali. Tiger killing at Golavli is shocking and the culprits should be punished.”
