Carcass of adult dolphin washes ashore on Colomb beach

Canacona: The carcass of a common Dolphin was spotted at Colomb beach on Friday by locals who soon notified the forest department about the dead sea animal as it was attracting the attention of stray dogs and flies.

Forest officials who inspected the carcass informed that the body of the sea mammal was in a decayed and mutilated condition and an autopsy is generally not conducted when the carcass is in such a decomposed state.

The highly decomposed dolphin which was around 2.5 metres long was soon buried by the forest department on the beach so as to prevent the beach dogs from consuming the carcass as it is usually harmful to them.

Forest Officials informed that these dolphin species are protected under Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
