VASCO: Former minister Jose Philip D’Souza has condemned Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida’s decision to leave the Assembly House while the issue of water shortage in Vasco was being discussed during the question hour on Wednesday.
“Almeida left the Assembly when Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho raised the question of water shortage in Dabolim, Vasco and Mormugao constituencies,” stated D’Souza in a press note.
“By walking out of the Assembly House, he has shown that he is not concerned with the water problem faced by the people of his constituency. Despite construction of new ground reservoir, the people of Vasco fail to get water,” he added.
When contacted, Almeida clarified that Godinho had raised the question regarding water shortage in Dabolim constituency. “Even if Godinho had to raise the question about Vasco, the PWD minister is supposed to answer the question and not me,” he added.
“Since the last two years, the PWD office at Baina has not witnessed any protests, which only shows that there is sufficient supply of PWD water.”
Commenting on ground reservoir at INS Gomantak, Almeida said water is being supplied to the residents during shortage from the old tank at INS Gomantak as well as from the newly constructed reservoir.
Further commenting of his leaving the Assembly during the question hour, Almeida said he was surprised that D’Souza, a two-time MLA, did not know the difference between the Assembly House and the Assembly hall.
“MLAs leave the Assembly hall either to go to the washroom or to have a cup of coffee. When the Assembly is in session and especially during question hour, no one leaves the Assembly House and D’Souza should know this better,” added Almeida.
