Carlos suffers minor stroke, is stable

Kept under observation for 48 hours; Politicians visit the MLA in hospital

PANJIM: Vasco MLA and Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC) Chairman Carlos Almeida was rushed to a private hospital on Thursday morning after he suffered a ‘minor stroke’.
According to authorities, Almeida’s health is stable and he is out of danger. He has been kept under observation for 48 hours under Goa Medical College’s (GMC) neuro-specialists.  
As per information received from his relatives, Almeida complained of knee pain after breakfast and fell unconscious. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Vasco, and then upon reference was shifted to a private hospital in Panjim for MRI scanning.
“The MRI was conducted and it was revealed that Carlos has a minor blood clot in his brain. Treatment was immediately started. Doctors said now he is out of danger,” said a close family member  
Hospital sources said, “The Vasco MLA is undergoing treatment as he had blood clots in his brain. He was brought in time and we have already given thinning injections. Almeida’s health is stable and he is out of danger and he has been kept under observation for 48 hours.”
Hospital sources added that the MRI of the brain revealed a right anterior cerebral artery (ACA) infarct. “He was evaluated by neurologist and was thrombolysed using thrombolytic agent within the window period,” the source said.
As soon as the new spread about Almeida being admitted, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane rushed to the hospital, followed by former fisheries minister Avertano Furtado, St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes, Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserrate, Mahadev Naik and Siddharth Kuncalienkar along with other BJP members and councillors.

He fell unconscious

VASCO: Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida suffered a mild heart attack at his residence on Thursday morning. He was immediately shifted to the Chicalim-based SMRC Hospital and later to the Manipal Hospital where his condition is said to be stable.
According to information, at around 9 am, Almeida fell unconscious at his residence. The family members immediately alerted a family friend namely Subhas, who rushed to the house and Almeida was taken to Chicalim-based SMRC hospital. Doctors at the hospital opined that he suffered a mild stroke and fell unconscious due to clotting in the brain. Since the injection required for treating such clotting was unavailable at the hospital, the doctors suggested that Almeida be shifted to the Goa Medical College or to Manipal hospital.
