Carmel College, Goa, in collaboration with the Chicalim Bio-Crusaders, organised a field trip for third-year history students to explore historic caves dating back to the megalithic period. The excursion was arranged as part of the students’ studies’ history and heritage of the village.
Embarking on their journey in Chicalim, the students were guided to Naquelim, near the Chicalim Post Office, where they were greeted by the awe-inspiring megalithic underground caves.
Ms. Anette Gomes, Assistant Professor at Carmel College, expressed, “We have provided our students with the opportunity to explore the Chicalim village, commencing with the exploration of the Chicalim cave from the megalithic period. The descent into the caves was an enthralling experience for both us and the students. We eagerly anticipate further exploration of the entire Chicalim village.”
Throughout the excursion, members of the Chicalim Bio-Crusaders imparted profound insights into the heritage of Chicalim, deepening the students’ appreciation for the village’s cultural significance.
Cyril Fernandes, a member of the Chicalim Bio-Crusaders, elaborated, “As part of the ‘History through Heritage’ initiative, a 7-day session was organized to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Goa’s history and heritage. Choosing Chicalim as our destination, we embarked on a journey to explore the caves. We take immense pride in showcasing the rich history of the Chicalim village. These caves, dating back 10-15 thousand years, represent man-made marvels from the megalithic era.”
